A Facial Soap Containing Sea Salt is More than Just Soap

Why is Salt Soap Good for the Skin?

Have you ever noticed that the skin feels better after spending much time by the sea? Do you know why?

Our body contains the same amount of minerals and nutrients as sea water. Therefore it is not surprising that sea salt is good for our health - especially the skin. Salt may appear to be powerful, even drying as raw material, but works the opposite way, and is actually moisturising. The popular neti pot used for treatment of the flue, salt is added precisely because water alone would dry the mucous membranes.

Sea salt is full of skin care minerals, such as magnesium, calcium and potassium. Sea salt absorbs waste products and impurities from the skin to its surface, including bacteria causing acne and works to treat infections, speeding up the healing process of the skin. Salt treatments have been used through out history to treat atopic skin and eczema in many different ways. The skin care properties of salt makes the soap bar also a bit more gentle and moisturising to the skin.

Salt Soap as Facial Soap

Kolme Cosmetics facial soaps foam very gently, because they largely contains mineral-bearing sea salt. Hence they not not only contain soap and are therefore more gentle to the sensitive facial skin.

The sea salt minerals in the facial soap (e.g. magnesium and potassium) create osmotic pressure, allowing water and skin nutrients to rise from the lower layers of the skin to the surface. The skin stays moisturised and soft. The effectiveness of facial soap is often noticed after a few weeks of use as moisture rises from the deeper layers of the skin to the surface. The skin gets brighter, softer and cleaner. Facial soaps over-greasing and active ingredients are designed accurately to fit the facial skin and therefore it is not quite the same with which soap to wash your face.

How to use Sea Salt Soap?

Each face soap comes with a reusable cotton pad to help dispense a moderate amount of salt soap on the face. It is by no means intended to foam the soap and cover the face in bubbles. With the help of the soft reusable cotton pad you only need a small amount of soap and with its help you can remove make up efficiently (a part of the cleansing effect is this way produced as a mechanical micro scrub).

Use warm water and wet your face, the soap bar and the reusable cotton pad. Swipe the soap with the reusable cotton pad and gently wipe your face while washing. You can also use the facial soap without the cotton pad and apply the soap by hand on the face. Rinse with warm water and finish with toner and for instance with calendula facial cream (Eng nimike).

Store the soap correctly: let the soap bar dry between each use, to maximise its usage time. A good and breathable platform is e.g. Mini Luffa Soap holder (eng tuotenimi). You can wash the reusable cotton pad once more with the facial soap and then leave it to dry on top of the soap. For travels and hobbies salt soap is conveniently packed in a FlatPak soap case (eng. tuotenimi). The soap bar can be placed in the FlatPak when wet and it dries there thanks to its technical fabric.

Double Cleansing with Oil and Face Soap Efficiently Removes Make Up and Gently Cleanses the Skin

You can use double cleansing when for instance wanting to wash away heavy make up or your face for other reasons is in need of a deeper cleansing. Also dry skin benefits from the protective effect during cleansing. Double cleansing is according to its name, a two stage cleansing were oil is normally used in the first stage.

Oil/grease effectively dissolves make up, dirt and excess sebum from the skin. In the second stage the oil and the dissolved impurities are washed away from the skin. Double cleansing with oil and salt soap is an effective way to cleanse the skin without strong and skin drying ingredients. Therefore double cleansing should be included as a part of your skin care routines.

Here is how to make a double cleansing with oil and salt soap.

  1. Cleanse the face with oil (good oils suitable for many skin types are e.g. hemp oil, thistle oil, MCT-oils, apricot kernel oil, oat oil, avocado oil and sunflower oil. Choose organic and cold pressed oil when possible). Rub impurities/make up off the skin in circular motions. Use time and in the process give yourself a small facial massage.

  1. Wet the face soap and cotton pad with warm water and rub the cotton pad on the face soap. Wash and wipe your face with the cotton pad and rinse the face with warm water.

  1. Finalise with a toner and face cream.

Choose Face Soap According to Your Skin Type
